An employer shall not make any rule preventing an employee from disclosing information to a government or law enforcement agency, to a person with authority over the employee, or to another employee who has authority if the employee has reasonable cause to believe that the information discloses a violation of local, state or federal law whether or not disclosing the information is part of the employee’s job duties.
An employer, or any person acting on behalf of the employer, shall not retaliate against an employee for disclosing the information. Retaliation can include an unfair write up, suspension, being placed on a performance improvement plan, and some other form of unfair discipline or termination.
If you believe that you have been retaliated against in some way for reporting a violation of law to your supervisor, manager or company owner, you should call this office immediately. You only have so much time before a claim can be filed. If you miss that time period you may lose your rights forever.
