Retaliation occurs when your employer acts against you for some kind of action that you have taken. For instance if you report sexual harassment and then are later terminated; this may be an act of unlawful retaliation. This also goes for reporting age, pregnancy, and race or disability discrimination.
If you report that wages are not being paid or meal or rest breaks are not being provided and are later terminated, this may be an act of unlawful retaliation.
Remember that Retaliation occurs when you report something that you reasonably believe is illegal then you are unjustly punished for it. Even if the thing that you report turns out not to be proven, you still have a case for retaliation and wrongful termination if you can show that you were terminated for reporting the act you thought was unlawful.

A major part of his job was to defend the companies when they were sued for harassment, discrimination and other employment law violations.
